[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”7/12″][vc_column_text]The development of the identity of Common Bond to become happened simultaneously with the build out construction period. And at the same time as the recruitment, social media planning, financial planning and solicitation, and, all the rest of my life.
Much like when you first find you’re (or the lady, as it happens) are pregnant. You first look at names. And strollers. But starting with the name is just wishful thinking. You know you won’t “know” until the kid pops her head out, and even then you’re on the fence. The first few weeks I just couldn’t/wouldn’t make up my mind on the logo, name, colors, etc because I wasn’t ready.
And the best advice on becoming a parent I ever received was from my college roommate, Thad, who said, “There is never a bad time to become a father.” In a sense, even the lack of time to plan, shape, grow & forecast the studio itself, the brand identity, the marketing plan, didn’t make this venture a bad one.

I didn’t open the door, hear the birds chirping (and the 528hz heart sounds groaning away, loosening my kundalini) and suddenly find myself over the moon for this identity. In that sense, it was like having a child. (Ellia, if you’re reading this, I’m sorry.) For a father, the kid comes out and your response is something akin to “Who is that?” and “Why don’t I feel more affection?”
And yet, that’s exactly it. I didn’t initially feel affection toward Common Bond, well maybe a little. But I passed it over. We tried Brick & Mortar (foundations), Steadfast (foundations), Springfield Yoga (boRRRRing) & I think there were a few more. As we hammered, and, chopped, and shuffled piles of stuff from one of the room to the other, I became more comfortable with the “sense” of our space.
When I finally did decide, I believe I had always known all along that this space would be Common Bond.
I had to trust the process to reveal and bring that out. And it did. It wasn’t the birth that gave us the person, the identity and the sense of self, it was the daily arriving in space. For lack of a better analogy, the daily arriving right in the present moment is what brought me into the future.
The logo, that’s an entirely different story. Rachel, I’m sorry, but also, what you did is amazing!
